Esteemed architectural designer and Hallmark Homes’ newest team member
Phillip Bidwell is an esteemed Architectural Designer with a strong reputation for designing contemporary, cutting-edge, relevant homes for his clients.
Phil’s passion for architecture started at a young age. The works of Architecture giants such as Sir Peter Bevan and Sir Miles Warren made a deep impression on him. The complexity of designing an aesthetically pleasing structure that serves a particular function was intriguing. He was determined to follow this career path and contribute to the Architecture space.
At the beginning of his career, Phil studied the technical side of construction and consent document preparation at the then-called Christchurch Polytechnic. He entered the industry working for architect Ross Maguire where he spent eight years. Ross was a great teacher, and he gained invaluable knowledge and understanding under his tutelage.
Phil was determined to broaden his horizons, so in 1995, he opened his own Architectural Design business, Philip Bidwell Architecture, which he ran for many years. Phil’s designs soon captured the attention of many. In the early years, one of his designs was judged in the National Supreme House of the Year at the Master Builders national awards. Consequently, his designs became sought after at the national level; however, most of his client base was centralised in Christchurch, Nelson/Marlborough and Central Otago.
We are incredibly fortunate to have Phil join our design team at Hallmark Homes. His extensive experience working in the design space is an invaluable asset to our team. Phil is passionate about working with our clients to meet their needs and aspirations suitably. He is dedicated to curating an exciting, enjoyable bespoke experience for every client and their family.
“I really enjoy residential design, particularly when it involves clients who have a passion for good design. I enjoy the process of creating something unique and pleasing with respect to how a plan functions, is experienced and how it looks. I like most on trend designs but I also like classic design trends too. and the merging of the two which is often seen in Central Otago work. I also enjoy working with other industry professionals as part of a team including planning, structural, interior and landscape consultants as well as expert suppliers, main contractors and trades. It is particularly rewarding when clients are overjoyed with the result and everybody involved in the design and build process feels part of the successful outcome”
